Terminator: Resistance gets next gen upgrade, collector’s edition

The often overlooked Terminator game from 2019 – Resistance – is still alive and kicking and will be back in 2021 with an Enhanced version for the PlayStation 5.

Terminator: Resistance – Enhanced is a next generation upgrade for the PS5 due for release on 26th March 2021. It will be a free upgrade for owners of the game on PlayStation 4 but will also be released with a new physical package as either a standard boxed game or as a collector’s edition.

As you can see from the images below both physical versions of this edition are rather plain. Even the collector’s edition is missing the usual statuette or figurine that we expect from these kinds of products. To us this looks like less of a collector’s edition and more of a “steelbook fan’s edition”.

Physical gubbins aside what about the game itself? What makes this so Enhanced?

“This version of the game will feature a range of graphical improvements as well as additional content, including a fully updated version of the main game including balance patches and updates previously released on the PC, including INFILTRATOR MODE, in which players can get under the skin of a T-800 series Infiltrator unit and strike out against Resistance forces. 4K resolution/60fps, faster load times, and new features taking advantage of the PS5’s DualSense Controller,” reads an announcement from publisher Reef Entertainment.

The aforementioned Infiltrator Mode – where you play as a Terminator instead of against one  – was announced last month.

At this point we have to ask: what about Xbox players? In the announcement of the Enhanced edition Reef Entertainment made no mention of a similar upgrade for the Series X and / or Series S. The only mention of the Microsoft’s consoles at all is this tweet which states that the Xbox One version will also receive a patch for balance and difficulty.

When Terminator: Resistance launched in November 2020 it was on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The original version, with some patches, is still available to buy for those so inclined. Those on PC, with the appropriate hardware, can also enjoy those next gen features that the Enhanced edition will add in for the PlayStation 5.
