Sony has pulled Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store

A week. That’s how long CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 has been out for and also how long it has taken Sony to pull Cyberpunk 2077 from digital shelves.

Early on Friday morning, CD Projekt sent out the following note to its investors.

“The management Board of CD PROJEKT S.A with a registered office in Warsaw hereby publicly discloses the decision of Sony Interactive Entertainment [SIE] to remove Cyberpunk 2077 from PlayStation Store until further notice,” the firm wrote.

“The decision was undertaken following our discussion with SIE regarding a full refund for all gamers who had purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store and want a refund at this time. All copies of the game previously purchased digitally on
PlayStation Store remain available for use by their respective buyers,” CD Projekt added.

However, taking a look at SIE’s statement, things seem a lot more nefarious.

We say this because SIE is offering full refunds for anybody who purchased the game through the PlayStation Store.

“Once we have confirmed that you purchased Cyberpunk 2077 via PlayStation Store, we will begin processing your refund. Please note that completion of the refund may vary based on your payment method and financial institution,” SIE wrote in a statement.

If you want a refund head to this page and submit your request.

For those who don’t want a refund, CD Projekt said that all copies of the game on PlayStation will continue to receive support and updates.

The question now is when will Cyberpunk 2077 return to the PlayStation Store?

Our best guess is, ahem, “when it’s ready”.

Cyberpunk 2077 is incredibly buggy on all platforms, but on previous generation consoles performance is appalling to the point where we’d call it unplayable.

While we can forgive the odd glitch, it’s clear that Cyberpunk 2077 has many problems that one or two patches won’t fix.

You are still able to pick up a physical copy of Cyberpunk 2077, but if you are playing on PlayStation 4 we recommend you wait until CD Projekt Red is able to issue a patch (or patches) that fix some of the core problems with the game.
