Christmas content coming to Doom Eternal

Update 4 for Doom Eternal is out now and with it brings a heap of changes under the Christmas tree for new and returning players of the base game and The Ancient Gods – Part One expansion.

While the update brings a lot of content to the game, which is available now, what we’re most interested in is some cosmetics which will be added to the game soon.

As you can see from the header image above you will be able to deck out Doom Guy / Slayer in some festive red garb and slay demons as old Saint Nick.

“Ho-Ho-Hold Onto Your Butts… Cause Update 4 brings some of the most magnificent merriment seen outside of the deepest depths of the North Pole itself. Feast your frosty eyes on a cornucopia of candy-striped cosmetic collectibles waiting for us all under the virtual in-game tree in our next free Event: Gift Wrap and Tear starting on December 10th. Really glory kills the bah-humbug right outta ya…” the Update 4 patch notes read.

For those new to in-game events and want to jump in for this one, it’s recommended to check out this guide from earlier in the year.

Outside of the cosmetics coming later what does Update 4 have for us now? There’s a new master level that remixes the Super Gore Nest part of the main game with the following:

  • “Classic Mode: Start the Master Level with only the Combat Shotgun. You’ll need to find the rest of the weapons and mods throughout the level in order to fill out your arsenal and have a chance to survive!
  • Extra-Life Difficulty Added: We’ve added Extra-Life mode for those looking to hone their skills and take on a higher challenge as it’s permadeth once you run out of Extra Lives. This is a great new option for those training for an Ultra Nightmare run. Time to go hunting for secrets!
  • Ultra Nightmare Difficulty Added: For the ultimate test of skill for those black belt Slayers, we’ve added Ultra Nightmare difficulty for this new Master Level. This means permadeath without the chance to gain Extra Lives.”

You can see all of that in action in the trailer below.

Doom Eternal, via backwards compatibility on the the Xbox Series X and Series S, also gets some additions in Update 4 with 4k at 60 HZ and 1080p at 60 HZ respectively, both with dynamic resolution scaling.

The full Update 4 patch notes can be found here.

Doom Eternal is available right now on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Next year it will also come to the Nintendo Switch.

If you’ve not played the game, we highly recommend it, but just remember that it will soon be available on Xbox Game Pass so you can play it without any additional purchases.
