It is the 1st of December, which means that the festive season begins in earnest. While that would result in businesses preparing to wind down for the New Year, as well as families finalising plans for the holidays, in a pandemic year, the threat of COVID-19 in South Africa looms large.
This as concerns over a stricter level of lockdown continue as the number of new daily infections shows no signs of slowing down.
To that end the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) sees 2 302 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections to date now sitting at 790 004.
As was the case yesterday, the NDoH cannot confirm how many tests have been conducted so far, but have noted that the number of recoveries is 731 242, which translates to a recovery rate of 92.56 percent.
Unfortunately though, 58 new fatalities have also been recorded, pushing the country’s total number of deaths to 21 535. Of the new 58, the NDoH says the Eastern Cape accounts for 32, the Free State has five, Gauteng has three, as does KwaZulu-Natal with three and the Western Cape contributes 15.
