On Steam alone Cyberpunk 2077 had a million concurrent players

Cyberpunk 2077 is finally out and, unsurprisingly, a lot of people are playing the most anticipated game of the year with more than a million doing so on Steam.

Since launching a few hours ago CD Projekt’s latest game has broken a million concurrent players on Steam. At the time of writing the top ten games on Steam have the following player counts in the last 24 hours. As you’ll see Cyberpunk 2077 is on top of the pile despite not even being out for a full day:

  • Cyberpunk 2077
    • Current players: 800 333
    • Peak today: 1 003 264
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
    • Current players: 499 185
    • Peak today: 1 008 334
  • Dota 2
    • Current players: 362 655
    • Peak today: 604 562
  • PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS
    • Current players: 200 759
    • Peak today: 390 512
  • Grand Theft Auto V
    • Current players: 61 838
    • Peak today: 112 488
  • Team Fortress 2
    • Current players: 52 951
    • Peak today: 72 013
  • Destiny 2
    • Current players: 49 488
    • Peak today: 100 766
  • Apex Legends
    • Current players: 46 803
    • Peak today: 96 765
  • Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege
    • Current players: 46 208
    • Peak today: 101 850
  • PAYDAY 2
    • Current players: 40 771
    • Peak today: 47 510

As you may have noticed Cyberpunk 2077 is the odd one out here as the only singleplayer game. While other titles here might have a singleplayer component the majority of those numbers come from the popular multiplayer modes which bring in high numbers every day.

In the case of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, one of the most popular multiplayer games out there, those numbers are also bolstered by the ongoing Operation Broken Fang live event.

As for the source of these numbers they come from Steam itself and not any third party. The store’s game stats are available for anyone to view at any time, as are the global download stats which are represented in the header image above.

This achievement looks to be a record but we’re sure that higher numbers and official word from CD Projekt on the matter will be coming soon.

If you’re planning on playing Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam soon and joining the other million doing the same just take note of a small glitch pointed out by Steam itself below:
