The new Nokia 8.3 5G lands in SA for R13 999

Earlier this year HMD Global (which makes Nokia Mobile devices) unveiled a rather interesting device in terms of 5G technology – the Nokia 8.3 5G. What piqued our interest in it was the fact that it was christened the world’s first “global 5G smartphone“.

This as it supports more 5G bands than any other smartphone available at the moment. In fact, the manufacturers say it supports all bands between 600MHz through to 3.8GHz. Now the device has been launched in South Africa, with it available for R13 999 (RRP) from today at retailers like Takealot.

Thereafter, HMD confirms that it will be available for an estimated monthly contract of R499 per month at the likes of Vodacom, Cellucity and 4U.

With local networks and service providers all working with varying degrees of 5G, from a frequency perspective in particular, this might be a great option to ensure you always have 5G connectivity, provided it is available in your area.

Along with the wide 5G support, other elements to point out on this device include a large 6.81″ edge-to-edge PureView display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 5G processor and 8GB RAM/128GB storage. There’s also a dual SIM configuration, but it remains to be seen if dual 5G is supported locally.

Looking at the rear of the phone, a quad lens setup is found in the array, with a large 64MP primary option, as well as 12MP ultra-wide, 2MP macro and 2MP depth sensing. There’s a sizeable 4 500mAh battery thrown in for good measure, along with Pure Android 10 running things.

On paper then, the Nokia 8.3 5G is a well appointed device, and equally well priced given the premium price tags that 5G phones currently carry.
