President Ramaphosa set to address the nation on Monday at 20:00

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage on, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa will address citizens later today.

The address is scheduled to begin at 20:00 this evening and follows meetings with the National Coronavirus Command Council, the President’s Coordinating Council and Cabinet.

“President Ramaphosa also hosted a virtual engagement on Sunday 10 January 2020 between government and interfaith leaders on the COVID-19 Risk Adjusted Strategy which is an inclusive national effort that enables adaptive responses to the shifting pandemic,” the Presidency wrote in a statement on Twitter.

“This engagement focused on the unfolding pandemic in the country and on the continent, including efforts to secure vaccines for all. The President’s address will be broadcast and streamed on a range of platforms that are accessible to South Africans and international audiences,” the Presidency added.

Those aforementioned platforms include TV, radio and the internet.

Two of South Africa’s larger news organisations, eNCA and SABC, already have streams up that you can set reminders for at the respective links.

While we won’t stoke rumours about what President Ramaphosa will announce we will note that the number of infections sat at 17 421 as of 11th November with total deaths sitting at 1.2 million.

We suspect that harsher restrictions might be on the cards for this evening’s “family meeting”.
