Lucasfilm Games has returned in name alone

It seems some rebranding is going on today over at Disney as the official Star Wars website has revealed the return of the Lucasfilm Games name which will be used going forward for any games using the Star Wars property.

This isn’t the announcement of some exciting new publisher or developer, but rather a single name that will be used to create some cohesion for Star Wars games.

While EA is still the exclusive creator of main Star Wars games, many other companies are either making smaller titles or licencing the brand for additions to other games. All of these creations will now fall under Lucasfilm Games.

A quick trailer has been released which you can watch here, but there’s nothing new in it, simply glances of recent Star Wars games. They are:

  • Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes
  • Star Wars: The Old Republic: Knights of the Eternal Throne
  • The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu
  • Star Wars Battlefront II
  • LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
  • Star Wars: Squadrons
  • Fortnite
  • Minecraft
  • Pinball
  • Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy

For us on the other side of things who simply want to play these games, this news seems to simply mean that we’ll be seeing yet another brand logo in the start-up screen.

We’re hoping that this will change in the future and Lucasfilm Games accounts have been created on Twitter and Facebook to keep us up to date.

“Lucasfilm’s legacy in gaming stretches back decades. And with Lucasfilm and the galaxy far, far away entering a new and unprecedented phase of creativity, so will the world of Lucasfilm Games — developed in collaboration with the finest studios across the industry,” reads the official announcement.

Aside from corporate reshuffling which usually involves name changes we do hope that this will mean tighter control over Star Wars titles going into the future.
