Destiny 2’s Cross Play Beta goes live today

Tuesday in Destiny 2 is Reset Day. This is when all challenges are reset so you can grind out more powerful gear and new story beats or events are introduced.

While we can’t wait to see where the Season of the Splicer is headed story wise and dive into Expunge – the new weekly Pinnacle activity – there is something else noteworthy happening in Destiny 2 this week.

From this evening at 19:00 CAT, a Cross Play Beta test will be available and we’re all invited.

“From 25th May through 27th May, a unique Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist will be available to all players in Destiny 2. You’ll be matchmade with Guardians playing on PlayStation, Xbox, Steam and Stadia. As you fight through the enemy waves of Darkness, our teams will be scouring data and performing a multitude of actions to test the integrity of our upcoming Cross Play system,” Bungie explained last week.

Cross Play was enabled for some players earlier in the month, but this was an accident and the feature was quickly removed.

There is a period of maintenance planned for today as well and there will more than likely be a patch you’ll need to download.

While this Beta test should be fun, there is one important limitation.

Players won’t be able to form fireteams and will instead be randomly matched with each other as is par for the course. Bungie says this is because it is specifically testing Destiny 2’s matchmaking systems with Cross Play enabled.

The developer is targeting a launch alongside Season 15, but this timeline may change following this beta test.

For the players who dive into the playlist there is an emblem up for grabs should you complete three strikes in the Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist.

The Stars Crossed emblem is the reward for playing three strikes in the Vanguard Strikes Cross Play Beta playlist.

Console players worried about cheaters on PC in the Crucible once Cross Play is rolled out, there will be an option to opt out of playing with PC players.

With Vault of Glass live, a new Pinnacle activity, more Splicer story content and of course a new Override mission, this week is going to be a busy one in Destiny 2.
