Like many other tech events in recent months, Computex is currently on virtually this week. One of the companies kicking off the online event is Intel, which has revealed new silicon as part of its 11th Gen offerings. More specifically, the American company has unveiled new additions to its 11th Gen U-series, which as you may be able to infer from the name, is aimed at ultrabooks or thin and powerful notebooks.

These is also the same CPU family that Intel introduced in September of last year, but the enhancements on a few key models will find their way into new hardware this year.

During its Computex 2021 keynote Intel conformed that the Core i7-1195G7 will finally be able to breach the 5GHz barrier on a single core thanks to a Turbo Boost Max 3.0 feature. Joining the new CPU is the i5-1155G7 and, while it cannot hit the same heights as the i7 model, reaching 4.5GHz, it does feature several speed improvements over its predecessor.

Diving into some of the finer elements of this processors, they are both conservative in terms of their battery usage, operating between the 12W to 28W range. The new chips are also designed with a quad-core and eight thread setup, with Intel Xe graphics integrated.

These two additions were not the only thing that Intel announced during its keynote, as an updated 5G modem for notebooks in the form of the 5G Solution 5000 saw the light of day. The latest offering comes via a collaborative effort between Intel, MediaTek and Fibocom, with the American company stating that the likes of Acer, Asus and HP will be featuring the modem in notebooks later this year.

Whether we’ll see the same flurry of new hardware announcements that followed the 11th Gen H-series a few weeks ago, remains to be seen, but we now know what most freshly minted Windows 10 ultrabooks will likely be sporting throughout the remainder of 2021.
