Aliens: Fireteam Elite looks good but we’re not falling for it again

Publisher Focus Home Interactive has released a new trailer for Aliens: Fireteam Elite and it looks great! But we’re not going to pre-order it and neither should you.

This isn’t just our usual stance against pre-orderings but because the trailer specifically mentions pre-ordering.

Said pre-orders are now open ahead of a release on 24 August 2021 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

As you can see in the impressive new trailer Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a co-op third person shooter where you need to survive against waves of Xenomorphs. Teamplay and customisation are two big selling points here.

Two versions of the game are available – the regular base game and the Deluxe Edition.

“Deluxe Edition upgrades the Standard Edition to include the Endeavor Veteran Pack and the Endeavor Pass which contains four additional cosmetic DLC passes including class kit skins, weapon colors, head accessories and more,” reads the blurb for the more expensive of the two.

As for pricing we here’s what you’ll be paying in South Africa. Thankfully, unlike the recent train wreck that is Battlefield 2042, there’s no insanely high pricing for South Africa or weird price differences between new and old consoles.

PC
• Standard Edition: R449
• Deluxe Edition: R785

PlayStation 4 & PlayStation 5
• Standard Edition: R629
• Deluxe Edition: R1 069

Xbox One & Xbox Series X|S
• Standard Edition: R719
• Deluxe Edition: R1 249

The aliens franchise is forever stained in the world of gaming because of Aliens: Colonial Marines. The publisher Focus Home Interactive is also not too highly regarded because, while the company does help bring some great games to market, it also has the track record for a very hit and miss approach.

The last two game it helped release – Necromunda: Hired Gun – was very much in the “miss” category. Aliens: Fireteam Elite could always surprise us but we’re very much doubtful. As always wait for the reviews on this one folks.
