Eskom increases loadshedding to Stage 4 from 14:00 to 22:00 today

Eskom has dealt South Africans another blow this afternoon, announcing that the initial Stage 2 loadshedding set for today has increased to Stage 4.

According to a power alert shared on Twitter a few minutes ago, the Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented from 14:00 this afternoon until 22:00 this evening, after which it will revert back to Stage 2 until Sunday.

The reason for the escalation is the result of additional breakdowns, the power utility confirms, with a unit at Medupi and two units at Duvha unavailable.

On top of this, Eskom has cited increased power demand during Winter as a contributor, seemingly pegging the blame for the current state of affairs on South Africans instead of its own mismanagement.

The upgraded loadshedding will be implemented in order to ration the remaining energy reserves, but it remains to be seen whether Stage 4 will continue to be a fixture beyond today.

Either way, the country’s citizens have been kicked while they are down.

As always we suggest using applications like Eskomsepush for iOS and Android in order to stay on top of changes to loadshedding, as well as keeping tabs on schedules for your area.
