Netflix teases more info on Cowboy Bebop and The Sandman

Netflix live action adaptations have always been a little hit or miss to put it mildly. It is why we’re so excited to see what the streaming platform has revealed this week as part of its Geeked Week showcase, with two properties in particular piquing our interest – Cowboy Bebop and The Sandman.

Both these beloved pop culture properties are in different stages of production, but are set to join Netflix’s bevy of live action series content in the near future.

In the case of Cowboy Bebop, that will be later this year, with a Fall (Northern Hemisphere) release window being confirmed.

Unfortunately a more precise date has not shared, but we did get to see three of the main characters and the actors playing them, bopping along to music from original composer on the anime Yoko Kanno. The composer will be handling the score from the series, which should help any concerned fans of the animated version that the right steps are being taken.

We should also note that John Cho, Daniela Pineda and Mustafa Shakir (seen in the video below) all look good as Spike Spiegel, Faye Valentine and Jet Black respectively. Hopefully as we get closer to that Fall release, we’ll get to see more from the production which is shaping up nicely.

Moving onto the next Netflix project, the Sandman, which too is being developed as a series. It is a graphic novel that has failed to be developed several times in the past, so it remains to be seen if the team at Netflix can pull it off. That said, the company shared a behind the scenes video featuring two of the leads, Tom Sturridge as Dream and Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer, and most importantly the creator of the series Neil Gaiman.

Below we get to see Gaiman explore some of the sets that have been created for the series, and for all intents and purposes, look genuinely excited about what he saw.

This is another series which will be interesting to see develop, especially given the grand visuals the the novels featured. We have already seen American Gods and Good Omens achieve successful adaptations via Amazon Prime Video, so hopefully Netflix can do the same.

Unlike Cowboy Bebop, there is no word on when The Sandman will land on the streaming service, with it only listed as “coming soon.”

Either way, there are some intriguing projects headed to Netflix that we cannot wait to check out.
