The Steam Summer Sale gimmick is ‘Forge Your Fate’

Like clockwork the Steam Summer Sale 2021 is now live between now and 8th July with the theme this year being “Forge Your Fate”, which is basically a collection of short choose your own adventure style stories.

There are 14 Forge Your Fate stories available which each tied into one genre of game. In alphabetical order these are:

• Racing & sports
• Action
• Mystery & detective
• Adventure
• Simulation
• Open worlds
• Space
• RPG
• Anime
• Horror
• Strategy
• Sci-fi
• Survival
• Roguelike

By logging into Steam and clicking on the Forge Your Fate option in the top right corner you will be able to choose a game genre and then pick between two options in a short story.

Doing this will unlock an animated sticker and working through all of them grants a Steam badge. The Steam Point Shop has also been updated with a collection of items to customise your Steam profile.

“Obviously you are a hero. Everyone says so. But what kind? This year’s summer sale is no ordinary deep discount super sale — you are about to face a gauntlet of short stories, each ending with a choice that will help classify what sort of hero you are. Choose from two possible actions in each of the fourteen Forge Your Fate stories found throughout the sale and receive an animated sticker as a memento of your decision. Upon completing all of the stories, you’ll get one of five unique badges reflecting your choices,” reads the announcement for Forge Your Fate.

While we do like these productions Valve put on for each sale we still dearly miss the spot and flash sales which offered the absolute best deals on games. These would be extra appreciated here in South Africa where regional pricing continually fails us and games cost more compared to richer countries like the US.

As always our advice for Steam sales stands: go to your wishlist and scroll through it to find which of your desired games has the deepest discount. Thankfully the Steam wishlist UI shows the discounts and sales price right from the list so you don’t need to do any extra clicking.

If your wishlist is barren or this is your first Steam sale now is the time to start building that list up.

Finally, as with past sales, there’s a lot of fantastic custom art made for the site. You can see the Forge Your Fate art for the roguelike genre in the header image above. For those interested in following the artists who created these Valve can point you in the right direction –
