Over the weekend the asdfmovie series of animations got a 14th edition continuing the line of videos stretching back more than a decade.

If you’re a bit younger (or don’t spend as much time on the internet) the asdfmovie videos are something of a cornerstone when it comes to YouTube and its animation scene.

The original asdfmovie came out back in August 2008 and creator Thomas Ridgewell (also known as “TomSka”) has been producing them, ever since.

The playlist of the main entries in the series, along with bonus content, can be found here. At the time of writing these have amassed close to 80 million views in total.

While that viewcount is high it doesn’t really reflect the impact that the series has had on this brand of humour and the legacy of creators on YouTube, but maybe that’s just the nostalgia talking.

So how does asdfmovie14 – embedded above – hold up? It’s a solid entry and the “ghosts aren’t real” joke is our favourite of the bunch. Nothing here tops “hey Bobby, play the one about falling down the stairs” or “ring ring, this is a robbery“, but then again what does?

Arguably what sets this latest video apart is the fact that it has a sponsor in the form of mobile game Monster Legends. Free to play games sponsoring YouTube videos is nothing new but it’s special here as asdfmovie recurring character Mine Turtle has been added to it.

For those who want more from Ridgewell but have watched every episode of asdfmovie to death, make sure you check out the channel TomSka & Friends, which used to be called “DarkSquidge“. This channel was used by Ridgewell for years to make more personal content and discusses his life and other work he has created outside of the animated shorts.

Recently, with the name change of the channel, focus has shifted to group content involving Elliot Gough and Eddie Bowley. It’s definitely worth subscribing for and check out past uploads too when the DarkSquidge name was used.
