Black Widow hailed as ‘Marvel’s return to the movies’

After what feels like countless delays the latest MCU movie – Black Widow – will be released in theatres and on Disney+ (for an extra fee) come this Friday, 9th July.

The official Marvel Entertainment YouTube channel has been absolutely pumping out trailers, featurettes, interviews and more to promote the movie with the latest video calling Black Widow, “Marvel’s return to the movies”.

Unfortunately this is only true depending on where you live as South Africa has been completely locked out of this movie event.

Last week we reported on the fact that The Walt Disney Company Africa had delayed the release of this movie until 13th August.

While no explanation was given for this, it seems obvious that the adjusted level 4 lockdown is the reason. While this is planned to end on 11th July it would have interrupted the 9th July theatre release of Black Widow, hence the postponement.

With Disney+ still not available in South Africa local fans have no legal way to watch the movie until next month.

What we do have until then is the aforementioned dozens of videos available on YouTube.

To say that Disney is pushing this one would be an understatement. The list of videos below is just what has been released in the last week.

Nothing here is particularly groundbreaking and mostly takes the form of quick shots from the movie without context. We’ve watched through them and we don’t consider anything particularly in the realm of spoilers. If you’ve been following the MCU you’ve almost certainly seen a lot of this already in the multiple years it has taken this movie to be released.
