Death Stranding: Director’s Cut is more of a Director’s Plus, says Kojima

Last week Sony showcased a trailer for the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding (featured below), confirming that the PS5 exclusive iteration of the 2019 game is available for pre-order before it launches on 24th September.

It is not the only Director’s Cut that PlayStation announced last week, with one of our favourites from last year, Ghost of Tsushima, getting the same treatment.

While the Director’s Cut for Death Stranding promises more content than the original, including better visuals, improved melee combat and some new weapons to play with, it looks like creator Hideo Kojima is not too keen on it being called a Director’s Cut.

He took to Twitter to share his thoughts on the name, clarifying what he believes a Director’s Cut to be, along with noting that the addition of new content, as well as enhancements being made across the board for Death Stranding to release on the PS5 exclusively, would make this forthcoming title a Director’s Plus.

Sure, that does not roll off the tongue very well, but we get what he means.

Whether players of the first title on PS4 and PS4 Pro will be willing to ante up R899 (Standard Edition) or R1 099 (Deluxe Digital Edition) for a second go remains to be seen, especially as the original 2019 release proved a little divisive.

This as all the hype and mystery surrounding its release failed to pay off and instead of an action packed post-apocalyptic romp, we got a game that was slow paced and featured a lot of walking across barren and empty landscapes, with the only things bringing joy being the remnants left behind by other players.

Either way, it looks like the Director’s Cut for Death Stranding might be designed solely for those players who worship at the alter of Kojima.

Perhaps they should have gone the DC route and called it the Kojima Cut?
