Huawei Job Fair sees 50-plus ICT graduates earn internships

Huawei South Africa recently held a job fair for 130 graduates from its ICT Academies at various tertiary institutions around the country. The aim of the event was to give students an opportunity to meet with potential employers and receive offers to join them via internships.

The event was successful in its goal, with Huawei confirming that 50-plus students were offered internships as they sought to take the next step in their careers in ICT.

The company invited several of its partners to the event to engage with graduates, including Mustek, Pinnacle, Nambiti Technologies, Business Connexion and Khanya Africa. Of the 50-plus students that will be employed in internships, 40 will be at Huawei, plus one or two from each of the 10 partner companies who participated, the company confirms.

In addition to the job fair, Huawei says it is recruiting 48 ICT graduates with outstanding academic results for the Huawei Graduate Programme.

“Huawei is working to empower learners to be very ready to not only work in the ICT Industry but also improve the standards of ICT through the use of Huawei’s cutting-edge ICT solutions. This job fair not only gives them the chance to see how those skills can be applied in the working world as well as where they might need to further upskill themselves,” notes Huawei ICT Academy director, Han Jiang.

Most of the graduates, who come from universities, universities of technology and TVET colleges, placed at Huawei, will be working as networking technical engineers, the company adds.

“There is so much that I have learned through this program which also played a big part in building my career within the ICT industry, and I would encourage all graduates to make the most of this opportunity,” enthuses Frank Tshegofatso Modiba, who is a Huawei ICT Academy graduate and participated in the 2020 Jobs Fair.

Modiba managed to get an internship opportunity to work for Huawei’s Enterprise South Africa, Service and Delivery department.
