Sea of Thieves toppled as top selling Steam game last week

Unofficial tracker of everything happening on Valve’s storefront – Steam Datatbase (SteamDB) – has released yet another weekly recap of the top sellers by revenue on the platform.

For weeks 25 and 26 of 2021 we saw Sea of Thieves at the number one spot no doubt bolstered by a decent discount in the Steam Summer Sale 2021 as well as the “A Pirate’s Life” crossover with Pirates of the Caribbean/

PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS (PUBG) has risen into first place which is no real surprise considering that the game appears on this list most weeks and has remained a top seller for most of the time it has been available.

While the conversation about battle royale games has shifted away from PUBG over the years it continues to sell extremely well, at least on PC.

On Wednesday last week the game also kicked off its Tango Mission Event which we’re sure did its bit to bring in some players.

1. PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS
2. Sea of Thieves
3. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
4. Rust
5. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice – GOTY Edition
6. Forza Horizon 4
7. It Takes Two
8. Index VR Kit
9. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
10. Grand Theft Auto V

A newcomer on the list is Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Due to the way the Steam Datatbase works games with multiple editions are listed separately and can appear more than one on the top seller list.

This is exactly what happened this week as the game claimed places third and ninth. As a full price $60 game (~R860), even on PC, Wings of Ruin has  pricing in South Africa close to the US at R899 for the standard edition.

Despite this high price the game is obviously selling well on Steam as a whole given its placings on the list. At the time of writing it has 2 277 reviews with 76 percent of them being positive.

Those who want to try the game before buying can download the trial version for free.
