Stage 2 loadshedding set to start at 16:00 this afternoon

After issuing a warning earlier today that it might be forced to implement loadshedding, Eskom has changed that “might” into “will”.

Since announcing it had lost 12 984MW of capacity due to breakdowns and 2 924MW to maintenance, the situation has deteriorated drastically.

“Breakdowns currently total 14 137MW while planned maintenance is 2 924MW”, Eskom said.

As such Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect from 16:00 to 21:00 tonight.

“Unfortunately a generation unit each at Tutuka and Medupi Power Stations were forced offline this afternoon, increasing the capacity constraints on the power system,” the utility added.

While units at Medupi and Tutuka Power Stations were expected to return to service this afternoon, this has been delayed though Eskom doesn’t say why that is.

To find your Stage 2 loadshedding schedule visit the Eskom website or alternatively download the EskomSePush app for iOS or Android.
