The Beoplay EQ is Bang & Olufsen’s first true wireless noise-cancelling earphones

Wireless earphones are nothing new, as every audio specialist has added these offerings to their lineup in reaction to phone makers’ indecision when it comes to 3.5mm headphone jacks. Danish firm Bang & Olufsen is also no stranger to wireless earphones, but its latest device, the Beoplay EQ earphones are its first ever true wireless noise-cancelling earphones.

The Beoplay EQ are expected to launch globally next month on 19th August, but we’re yet to hear any details on South African availability and pricing.

For now, the new earphones will cost $399 (RRP) Stateside, which translates to ~R5 845, not factoring in any other added costs of course. Either way though, this hardware is not going to come cheap, but given the quality with which Bang & Olufsen manufactures its products, these will likely last you a long time.

As for what technology is baked in, the Beoplay EQ’s adaptive noise cancelling is said to support Qualcomm’s AptX adaptive standard. Added to this is support for both AAC and SBC codecs, along with an IP54 rating for dust resistance and waterproofness. Whether these are for workout warriors though, is unclear.

Other key specifications include 6.5 hours of use with noise cancelling turned on. This increases by an hour with the feature turned off, and the battery case boosts this figure to 20 hours. Connectivity is handled via Bluetooth 5.2 and the frequency range is between 20Hz to 20 000Hz, along with a 6.8mm electro-dynamic driver found within the buds.
