The most important announcements from WitcherCon 2021

At the weekend Netflix decided to dedicate an entire event to the world of The Witcher, and if like us you are a fan of the books, games and show, it was a rather exciting weekend.

Let’s start with arguably the most important bit of news, the next season of The Witcher series. Netflix has released a teaser you can and should watch below.

Together with a second teaser which details the titles of each episode of the forthcoming season, we can infer a decent amount of information. Clearly Kaer Morhen will play a pivotal role in this season and hopefully we get to see the early days of Ciri becoming Geralt’s ward and her Witcher training.

“There are so many characters that we’re introducing in Season 2. We are getting to see Dijkstra for the first time and sort of the Redanian Kingdoms. I know a lot of fans are excited to meet Philippa for the first time, Codringher and Fenn, Rience, Nenneke. There’s so many, but I would have to say Vesemir is the one I’m looking most forward to our audience meeting,” said The Witcher showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich.

It’s clear that Ciri isn’t safe and we have to wonder whether the Wild Hunt will feature in this season. There is a “Top Secret” final episode in the teaser mentioned above so perhaps will see the Wild Hunt there but we’re just guessing at this point.

Ahead of The Witcher’s second season a new film from the universe is coming to Netflix. Nightmare of the Wolf is an animated film that will focus on Vesemir, Geralt’s mentor.

This film looks to showcase two things we are interested in. Of course the chance to get a closer look at Vesemir’s origin story is great but it seems we may actually get a good look at the Trial of the Grasses. The trials consist of a series of concoctions that physically alter a Witcher and little is known of it other than only four out of ten children survive.

Something we didn’t hear much about was the forthcoming live-action prequel to The Witcher, The Witcher: Blood Origin.

This series will take place 1 200 years before Geralt became the Butcher of Blaviken and focus on the Conjunction of the Spheres which merged the worlds of monsters, elves and humans.

The show doesn’t have a release date yet and since it wasn’t mentioned during WitcherCon we suspect that a 2022 release date is realistic.

Finally, CD Projekt Red has announced that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be getting some free DLC inspired by the series. While we’d love Henry Cavill to be a voice option for Geralt, that seems like a stretch so we’re really just expecting some visual DLC such as outfits for Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri.

We wouldn’t mind if a version of Toss A Coin To Your Witcher made it into the game as well.

That’s all from WitcherCon, now for the wait until 17th December for The Witcher. Thankfully, Nightmare of the Wolf releases on 23rd August so we don’t have to wait long to dive into the world of mutant monster hunters.
