The Witcher: Monster Slayer launches with server problems

The latest game in The Witcher franchise is now available on iOS and Android as Monster Slayer offers players a Pokémon Go-esque augmented reality (AR) experience. It hasn’t been long since the launch but things have been rocky so far.

Initial reactions to the launch of the game seem to be positive despite some hiccups.  On the Google Play Store, The Witcher: Monster Slayer currently has 8 358 reviews with an average rating of 4.5 stars out of five.

Looking through some of these reviews and many mention launch day issues that you’d expect from an online title less than 24 hours since launch. Developer Spokko, an arm of The Witcher owner CD Projekt, has replied to several of these reviews stating that things are being worked on.

Many of the lower scored reviews point out an inability to play due to in-game messages stating that the game was under maintenance.

“Due to technical issues and the process of resolving them, the game had to remain in maintenance mode and is now available. We apologize for any inconvenience caused and hope you will give us another chance once you’re back in the game! Good luck on the Path!” reads a reply from Spokko.

Even the ratings left in the higher ranges state that some problems were encountered while trying to play.

While, at this point, we’d like to chime in about the reviews on iOS, there seems to be a weird hang up in that department. Despite Monster Slayer currently being the top 47th game in the role playing category on the App Store, it is only displaying four reviews.

The App Store page is also lacking a star rating at the moment something we’re just going to have to also chalk up as some niggles from the early nature of the launch.

Finally, to go along with the launch we have a live action release trailer. The trailer ends in a an inside joke with one of the character’s bicycles appearing on the roof of a house, a nod to Geralt’s horse Roach glitching out and doing the same in The Witcher 3.
