Trailers for Venom and Free Guy look awful

Through happenstance new trailers for both Venom: Let There Be Carnage, as well as Free Guy were released relatively close together today, and both of them look rather bad.

Starting with Venom and the first trailer didn’t exactly get us excited back in May of this year and this new one is just as uninspiring.

It also leans into the realm of spoilers seemingly showing off how Cletus Kasady gets his own symbiote – by simply biting Eddie Brock and sucking his blood. Is that how symbiotes work, really?

We want to give the filmmakers the benefit of the doubt here. It seems that Brock and the Venom symbiote are at odds in this film so it kind of makes sense that an offshoot of the alien would turn into carnage so it can be less restrained and just go around eating everyone.

We’re not sure if it’s this trailer but the acting from both Tom Hardy and Woody Harrelson here is just bad. It sounds like both of them are mumbling their lines and what’s included in the trailer is a bad take that would usually be left out of a final cut.

Venom: Let There Be Carnage is planned for a theatrical release in the American Fall. For those of us in other countries that’s between late September and late December. Preliminary schedules for theatres in South Africa pin the exact date as 17th September.

The continually-delayed Free Guy has had countless trailers and featurettes, including a rather important one that brings Deadpool into the MCU.

The latest one is particularly bizarre with a fake version of Ryan Reynolds’ character in the movie just turned buff.

For some baffling reason Reynolds’ face is superimposed onto the head of a bodybuilder.

We’re not sure if this is supposed to be intentionally bad and meant to look like a bad deepfake. Again, maybe we’re giving the filmmakers too much credit here, but this again just looks bad.

Free Guy is set for release, also in theatres, on 13th August. Looking at the aforementioned South African schedules and it seems it will arrive here a week later on 20th August.
