Ubisoft rolls out Instagram account for South Africa

French publisher Ubisoft now has an official Instagram account focused on South Africa.

This endeavour went live this past weekend when the publisher had sponsored posts on the platform.

“Hello South Africa! There is now a dedicated Ubisoft South Africa Instagram account. Join the conversation here: https://www.instagram.com/ubisoftza/,” the posts read.

South Africans may have come across these posts while simply scrolling through their feed on Instagram, but it has also appeared on Facebook.

Over the past few days of the account being live, @ubisoftza has posted a dozen times highlighting upcoming games such as Far Cry 6, Tom Clancy’s XDefiant, Rainbow Six Extraction and more.

For an actual focus on South Africa the account has highlighted cosplayers Daniella Mosca (see below) as well as Kelsie Atkins who shared a very impressive recreation of Fenyx from Immortals Fenyx Rising.

Companies, especially bigger ones, creating country-specific social media accounts is nothing new, but it’s still a bit of a big deal when it comes to South Africa.

This is because English is one of the official languages in this country, so many companies simply have the accounts shared with those intended for international audiences. We see the opposite of this happening with other countries with fewer official languages, such as Fall Guys creating new official accounts for French, German and Italian.

In the rare cases where we do get these specialised accounts it’s even rare that South Africa isn’t grouped up with several other regions, usually the Middle East.

We spoke to a representative for Ubisoft in South Africa and we were told that this new page will be used for dedicated content in the region as well as promotions and competitions. If you’ve ever seen a great contest online only to be crushed by regional restrictions locking us out then you’ll know how nice this is to hear.

Hopefully we see more publishers, as well as developers, making South African pages in the future.
