Blizzard’s chief legal officer has left the company

The hits keep striking Activision Blizzard. Facing a lawsuit brought by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, and an investigation by the Securities and Exchange Commission, Blizzard has now lost its chief legal officer.

“After more than three years at Blizzard Entertainment, I have decided to move on to my next adventure. Friday was my last day,” Claire Hart, the now former chief legal officer at Blizzard Entertainment wrote in a LinkedIn post.

“The past three years have been full of unexpected twists and turns, but I feel honored to have worked with and met so many great people at Blizzard and across the Activision Blizzard businesses,” Hart added.

The now former chief legal officer didn’t go into much more detail about her departure, but it would be folly to assume that the ongoing legal issues faced by the company didn’t have something to do with her departure.

In addition to the SEC and The DFEH, Activision Blizzard is also being investigate by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

“The Company is actively engaged in continued discussions with the EEOC and has cooperated with the EEOC’s investigation concerning certain employment practices. It also confirmed that it is complying with a recent U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) subpoena issued to the Company and several current and former employees and executives regarding disclosures on employment matters and related issues. The Company is confident in its prior disclosures and is cooperating with the SEC’s investigation,” the firm said in a statement.

This is yet another major loss for Blizzard following the departure of president J Allen Brack who left in August after being named specifically in the DFEH’s lawsuit. The head of global human resources, Jesse Meschuk also left the company in August.

Things appear to be unravelling at Blizzard and the firm is yet to enter a courtroom.
