Cell C wants Virgin Mobile customers to switch to its network

Last week Virgin Mobile confirmed that it would be closing up shop in South Africa, but with an estimated 15 000 customers a part of the network, they’ll need a new provider.

Angling to be said network is Cell C, with it citing the fact that Virgin Mobile customers were already roaming on their infrastructure as the reason for switching.

“Close to 15 000 Virgin Mobile subscribers have roamed on the Cell C network, via South Africa’s first Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) arrangement, since 2010. It is therefore a natural fit for customers to move to Cell C as they have first-hand experience of the improved network coverage and quality which is still offered at the best price,” the company explained in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“We understand that Virgin Mobile customers will need to find a new supplier and we know that connectivity is at the heart of most of our daily lives nowadays, be it for work, entertainment, school or even a side hustle. With Cell C’s fantastic offer, customers can stay connected and can reach family, friends, and colleagues,” adds Simo Mkhize, Cell C chief commercial officer.

In order to make the switch seamless, Cell C has announced a set of packages aimed not only at Virgin Mobile customers, but all in SA, which will be available over the next 14 days.

The switch packages are available for viewing and taking up, here.

“We are committed and ready to continue to provide connectivity to Virgin Mobile subscribers and all consumers,” notes Mkhize.

“Being responsive and proactive in meeting customer’s needs is at the heart of what we do at Cell C and our innovation is driven by the desire to bring the best possible communication solutions that empower consumers’ lives,” he concludes.

Whether Virgin Mobile customers will be willing to switch to Cell C given its own problems remains to be seen, but the network is clearly doing its utmost to court the customers.
