Many South Africans appear to have used the long weekend Heritage Day gave us to get their vaccine. This as we see the number of vaccines administered jump by nearly 270 000 over the course of the long weekend.
Of course, COVID-19 is still very much a threat with as many as 49 798 active cases being reported by the Department of Health on Sunday evening. Sadly, 51 people have died due to COVID-19 according to the most recent data. This pushes the total number of deaths to 87 052.
The rate of vaccinations also means that the rate of new cases is coming down with the DoH reporting only 967 new cases on Sunday.
To date, 16 827 790 vaccines have been administered and the recovery rate for COVID-19 currently sits at 95.3 percent.
