Fight zombie rats in World War Z: Aftermath

Hordes of rats were actually the good guys in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad recently, but now they’re back and zombified in World War Z: Aftermath.

Aftermath is an expansion for World War Z which was originally released back in 2019. Come 21st September 2021 players can return to the game for the paid expansion to experience the new additions.

Some of those new additions are shown off in the gameplay overview trailer at the bottom of this story, including those zombie rat hordes.

This new enemy type will swarm players requiring the use of teamwork to prevent death. The little buggers can also be taken down with area of effect weapons with a flamethrower shown to be particularly effective.

To make fighting zombies – and rats – more rewarding Aftermath will bring with it sevral changes and additions to the core game.

Most exciting to us is the ability to play this third person game as a first person shooter. We hope the implementation here is sweeping unlike other titles such as Grand Theft Auto V which also offered an FPS mode that was rather samey.

Those who prefer close quarters combat can look forward to a revamped melee system that allows for dual wielding of weapons. It will be interesting to see how the game also balances melee with first person, a combination that doesn’t always work.

Other additions mentioned in this trailer include a new location in Rome, a new shield-wielding class called Vanguard and more rewards than ever for playing to encourage logging in every single day.

As mentioned Aftermath is a paid expansion launching later this month and it will require owning the base game which is available on PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Those on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S can also play the game with supported 60FPS and 4K resolution.
