First day of local Nova 8 sales a resounding success says Huawei

This week Huawei debuted its latest smartphone to South Africans in the form of the Nova 8. The device was officially unveiled at an event in Johannesburg on 26th August, after which it subsequently was made available to pre-order alongside some additional peripherals and wearables from Huawei to sweeten the deal.

On 1st September the device officially went on sale for those who did not pre-order and the early numbers are looking very promising, according to Huawei Mobile South Africa.

“Huawei reports that, on 1 September, which marked the first day of sales for the HUAWEI nova 8, overall consumer interest and demand for the device reached its peak. The smartphone quickly exploded onto the market on its launch day, resulting in stores selling out their stock on hand after only 1 day of sales,” it enthuses in a press release sent to Hypertext.

“The nova 8 is a hot seller and Huawei is currently increasing its stock to make sure they’re able to meet this fantastic demand from consumers,” it adds.

While specific numbers have not been divulged at this stage, if the first day explosion is to be believed, it looks like consumer sentiment towards the Huawei brand remains strong in South Africa despite some of the recent issues involving the company and the United States.

We are currently reviewing the Nova 8 ourselves and the device has proved impressive so far and certainly offers a lot given its R10 999 (RRP) price tag.

That having been said, it remains to be seen how consumers will react long term with HMS and the AppGallery handling the mobile ecosystem for the device.

On that front, it looks like Huawei is banking on the performance of the Nova 8 to overshadow any shortcomings, with the display and camera array getting specific mention from the company.

“Made for the way people today browse and play, the display on the HUAWEI nova 8 supports a 90Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz sampling rate to make every touch and scroll responsive. With 10-bit colour depth and up to 392 ppi, the display can render up to 1.07 billion colours. Whether for browsing social feeds, reality shows or live streaming, the display shows smoother gradients and more realistic content in vivid colours,” the company’s press release points out.

“Inside the Nebular Camera System is a powerful quad-camera consisting of a 64MP HD Main Camera, 8MP Ultra-Wide angle Camera, 2MP Macro Camera and 2MP Bokeh Camera, which lets users capture more when exploring. Using 4-in-1 light fusion technology, the 64MP Main Camera makes it easier for people at all skill levels to take pictures in crystal-clear quality. And even nightime can’t stop people from exploring visually. The Super Night Mode makes photos sharper, brighter and ready to share,” the release adds.

Along with some of the notable elements onboard the Nova 8, Huawei is also highlighting the after sales offers, with a two-year warranty, one-time free screen guard service, free unboxing service at store and 50-days screen insurance bundled into the purchase.
