Flickr and LEGO team up for a photography contest

Anyone involved in the LEGO hobby will know that photography site Flickr is unofficial hub where people from around the world congregate to share, and now the pair of companies has a contest running.

The “LEGO Build and Capture Photo Contest 2021” is now live and will run until 1st November.

The rules are rather simple: join the public group for the contest here, upload a total of three photos and that’s it.

There’s no real unifying theme or restrictions on entry.

“We are looking for photos that feature LEGO bricks in a creative, fun, or fantastic way. For this contest, the focus should be on the art of photography, and how you can incorporate LEGO into it,” a description for the contest reads.

Said description also provides links to five pictures taken in the past as a source of inspiration.

So what’s on offer for your efforts? Six winners will be chosen receiving:

  • First Place Prize (1) The collection of 4 Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe LEGO Art sets. RRP = $479.96
  • First Place Prize (2) The collection of 4 Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe LEGO Art sets. RRP = $479.96
  • Second Place Prize (1) The collection of 3 Marvel Studios Iron Man LEGO Art sets RRP = $359.97
  • Second Place Prize (2) The collection of 3 Marvel Studios Iron Man LEGO Art sets RRP = $359.97
  • Third Place Prize (1) The collection of 3 Star Wars The Sith LEGO Art sets. RRP = $359.97
  • Third Place Prize (2) The collection of 3 Star Wars The Sith LEGO Art sets. RRP = $359.97

This prize list may look a bit weird in the fact that each contains multiple of each LEGO set. This is because the LEGO Art theme of sets is made for buyers to pick up multiples of each and combine them into single pieces of art.

Four Andy Warhol sets combine to make one 2X2 Marilyn Monroe exhibit, three Iron Man sets create a single long piece of the character firing a repulsor, and the three Star Wars sets make an imposing vertical build of Darth Vader with his lightsabre ignited.

In South Africa these sets cost R2 500 each, making the combined works extremely expensive. You can see the combined sets in the gallery below.

For those wanting to participate remember to read the terms and conditions available at the bottom of the group page as well as in the dedicated FAQ.
