Insomniac Games shares teasers for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine

Last night Sony held its hotly anticipated PlayStation Showcase, which served up gameplay from soon-to-be-released titles, as well as some upcoming ones that studios are working on.

Two of the biggest reveals on the night came from Insomniac Games, with a teaser revealed for Marvel’s Wolverine, along with the confirmation of Venom in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Little is known about the former at this stage, but given Insomniac’s recent stellar track record with Marvel properties, we are definitely itching to play Wolverine. At the time of writing, no launch window has been disclosed, so it remains to be seen when it will see the light of day.

What we do know is that this will serve as a standalone title, so there may not be a ton of X-Men content for the game as the focus could be on Logan’s earlier years.

“Even though Marvel’s Wolverine is very early in development, from what I’ve seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special,” wrote Ryan Schneider, head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations at Insomniac Games, in a PlayStation blog post.

As for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, it does has a release window, albeit a rather large one as it is set for release sometime in 2023. The wait should be worth it though, given how impressed we were with the original on the PS5, as well as the Miles Morales story.

From what we can tell in the trailer, Morales will be featuring alongside Peter Parker, with Kraven the Hunter likely being one of the antagonists. The more crucial big bad in this one will be venom though, but it is unclear whether the black symbiote spidey suit arc will feature.

Either way, Insomniac Games definitely has us hooked for their upcoming releases, despite the long wait that’s on the cards.

“Much of the development team that brought you Marvel’s Spider-Man is returning to produce Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, including Bryan Intihar (creative director) and Ryan Smith (game director). Today’s game footage trailer is merely just a glimpse at what’s in store in terms of the new abilities our heroes will acquire, suits they will wear (more on that some other time), and the villains that will try to hunt them down,” added Schneider.
