Latest No Man’s Sky update focuses on alien communities

Hello Games continues work on No Man’s Sky today with the release of a trailer for Frontiers, the 17th free update to the title since it launched way back in August 2016.

The focus of Frontiers is alien settlements and communities with the player plonked down in the middle of things with lots of responsibilities.

“Become Overseer of your very own procedurally generated alien settlement in update 3.6, Frontiers. Make choices, guide your citizens, develop new structures and defend your people from the Sentinels. Or, take advantage of a massive overhaul of base building to construct your own dream base,” reads the description for Frontiers.

To facilitate this focus on structures base building has been revamped with a new grid menu looking to make things easier as well as faster. New base parts – hundreds of them in fact – have also been added to fill that grid menu up.

While these small space towns are important the update also brings with it several smaller changes such as an increased number of save slots, better destruction and environmental effects, Steam trading cards and more. There’s also plenty of bug fixes packed in for good measure.

The full patch notes for the Frontiers update can be found here but we must give a warning. Multiple times over the years the No Man’s Sky official website pins our GPU at 100 percent usage. This is problem we’ve experienced across different computers and browsers so tread carefully. We assume it’s because the pages are so packed with auto-play content.

No Man’s Sky is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You can also play the game without the need for any additional purchase through Xbox Game Pass.

For those who do want to own it, No Man’s Sky is currently 50 percent off on all platforms. Frontiers, and all content released since launch, is free.
