Microsoft announces xCloud expansion & Forza Horizon 5 PC requirements at TGS

The Tokyo Games Show (TGS) 2021 is currently underway and while we eagerly await the announcement of any new JRPGs, Microsoft has revealed some news on its game streaming platform – xCloud.

To that end, the service is expanding to new territories – Australia, Brazil and Mexico – along with Japan, which is the reason why the announcement was made during TGS.

“The evolution of Xbox Cloud Gaming means that players can now decide how they want to play, whether on PC, mobile device or tablet. Over 100 games in the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library are localized and will be playable from launch on October 1,” an Xbox Wire blog post explained.

This beta access preempts a larger rollout of xCloud with access to Game Pass, which Microsoft is bringing to the Xbox Series X|S during the upcoming festive season.

Whether South Africa will be added to that list remains to be seen, but given the local console gaming community’s gravitation towards PlayStation here, the addition of xCloud on top of Game Pass, could help win over some more players.

For now though, we’ll have to wait to hear about any change on that front.

In other TGS-related news, Microsoft also offered up a look at the PC requirements for the hotly anticipated Forza Horizon 5, along with some dev talk and gameplay (pasted below).

In terms of what is listed, the minimum, recommended and ideal specifications for AMD and Nvidia hardware have been outlined for the graphics options in particular.

To that end, an AMD Radeon RX 470 or Nvidia GTX 970 are needed to get things going. Added to this is the need for 8GB RAM and 4GB VRAM, as well as a 110GB HDD.

How solid a gaming experience that will deliver though, is unclear.

“Here are our PC specs and, as you can see, we’ve broken down the requirements based on different gameplay scenarios across both Nvidia and AMD setups. To deliver the best possible experience to all of our PC players, we have updated our minimum specifications from the previous estimate given on the Microsoft Store and Steam,” developers noted in a blog post.

Being one of the titles that Microsoft is making available via xCloud and Game Pass come 5th November, it will likely prove a crucial release for the company.
