MultiChoice now has its own fixed wireless internet solution – DStv Internet

MultiChoice has announced that it will be entering the internet service providers sector with the launch of DStv Internet.

DStv Internet is a fixed wireless internet service so, while you won’t have to worry about installation or access to fibre, you won’t be able to opt for an uncapped internet connection.

There are three packages to choose from:

  • 25GB + 25GB Night-time data
  • 110GB + 110GB Night-time data
  • 220GB + 220GB Night-time data

MultiChoice did not disclose the pricing for these fixed wireless packages but did says that DStv customers would have the benefit of being able to choose bundled packages which include data connectivity with their DStv subscription. Of course, you won’t need to be a DStv subscriber to use DStv Internet.

MTN has been selected as the network partner for DStv Internet.

“We are proud to partner with Multichoice to enhance access to digital services in South Africa. As a network wholesale provider, we are gearing up to serve the broader digital eco-system to ensure that more people can benefit from a modern and connected life,” executive for managed network services at MTN South Africa, Quintus De Beer, said in a statement.

In addition to internet access, DStv is launching DStv Trusted Home. According to MultiChoice this is “an AI-driven network security and Wi-Fi management solution developed jointly by MultiChoice’s digital platform security subsidiary Irdeto, and Minim – the creator of intelligent networking products.”

Essentially, if you tack this on to your DStv Internet bill for R30 a month you will get a security solution and parental controls. This can be controlled via an Android or Apple iOS app but you will need the router bundled with your contract or either the ZTE 286C or ZTE 286 R router.

There is something of a launch special with the first 20 000 DStv Internet customers getting a 12-month subscription to DStv Trusted Home at no additional cost.

Unfortunately DStv Internet isn’t available as of time of writing but you can watch this URL for when the offering goes live.
