Nedbank adds three new digital banking services, including a chatbot called Enbi

This week Nedbank has introduced three new services as a part of its digital banking solutions. These include cardless withdrawals, a simplified cellphone banking (USSD) registration and a conversational chatbot assistant called Enbi.

Many of these additions have been propelled by changing client needs during the pandemic era, especially as physical contact and lockdown restrictions have made some traditional banking processes untenable.

“Our digital journey is, and always has been, undertaken with the targeted destination to offer clients an easy to use, highly engaging and helpful digital banking experience, one that ensures seamless, cost-effective and convenient banking across all our digital channels,” explains Ravikumaran Govender, Programme executive for Digital Fast Lane at Nedbank, regarding the additions, all of which are found in the company’s Money app.

Enbi is set to raise the bar when it comes to the value that digital assistants can bring to customers when managing their finances. Enbi’s intuitive interface and natural language makes it easier for our users to find out more about our services and products. Enbi navigates users to key features in the Money app and Online Banking and has useful buttons and quick replies so they can quickly and easily achieve their task. Enbi empowers and guides users how to perform certain tasks, like how to reverse a debit order or find their nearest branch,” adds Govender, about the new chatbot.

Looking at the other announcements, the cardless withdrawal facility will allow Nedbank clients to send money to recipients, even if they are not banking with the financial institution. Recipients can withdraw the cash from any Nedbank ATM or at selected retail stores, using a voucher number and one-time password (OTP).

Nedbank says it has already partnered with Shoprite, Checkers, Usave and OK stores on this offering, and will continue to grow its footprint in SA.

The final announcement of the new trio will see clients capable of registering for cellphone banking using their Nedbank card details or by following the traditional profile and PIN process. The institution says clients register only once and then receive a five-digit cellphone banking PIN, which is all they need to access the mobile banking platform.

While these services are not zero-rated, Nedbank has tried to make it as affordable as possible, with access to the banking platform costing an estimated R1 per minute in airtime.

“While Covid-19 and the national lockdowns sharpened the world’s focus on the importance and value of rapid digitisation, we have been investing significant resources into building an innovative, highly enabling digital banking experience long before the pandemic,” concludes Govender.
