Netflix will host livestream of Inspiration4 launch, on YouTube

This week four civilians will launch into orbit where they will spend three days circling the globe before splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Inspiration4 mission as it’s known has the goal of raising money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The four person crew is:

  • Jared Isaacman – Founder and chief executive officer at Shift4 Payments. Will serve as mission commander.
  • Hayley Arceneaux – physician assistant at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Will serve as chief medical officer.
  • Chris Sembroski – a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital supporter. Will serve as mission specialist
  • Dr Sian Proctor – Entrepreneur who makes use of Shift4Shop. Will serve as the mission pilot.

As for the launch window, if you were hoping to watch it, you’re going to have to be up very early on Thursday morning.

Netflix, which has produced doccie-series, Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space will also play host to a livestream of the launch but not Netflix.

Instead the livestream will be hosted on YouTube, likely so that more people can watch the event.

Ahead of the launch Netflix will stream a 90 minute live show which starts at 01:00 CAT. The launch itself will take place no earlier than 02:02 CAT but no later than 07:02 CAT on Thursday morning.

Should weather conditions be unfavourable – which they currently seem to be – a second launch window will open at 01:02 CAT on Friday morning.

Aside from spending three days in space, the crew will conduct health-related experiments. According to Space.com, the crew will also have a Martin Guitar ukulele which Chris Sembroski will play in orbit.

You can find a full list of the cargo being sent on the mission here which includes 29kg of hops that will be used to brew “an out-of-this world beer by the brewers of Samuel Adams”.

The final episode of Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space will stream on 30th September following the completion of the mission.
