Thanks to a leak earlier in the week, one of the device we knew Microsoft would be unveiling at its Event last night would be the Surface Pro 8. What was not known, however, is just how powerful the device is.

So much so that Microsoft is billing it as its most powerful Surface Pro to date, which is normally a line that Apple likes to tout at its device presentations.

“Surface Pro 8 is more than twice as fast as Pro 7, with 11th Gen Intel Core processors, two Thunderbolt 4 ports and built on the Intel Evo platform. All of these performance gains, Windows 11 and up to 16 hours of battery life make Surface Pro 8 the most powerful 2-in-1 on the market,” highlights a Windows Blog post regarding the 2-in-1 device.

“Pro 8 is the ideal hybrid device, giving people a dynamic on-the-go tablet and the ultimate work-from-home set-up,” it adds.

In terms of specifications, the Surface Pro 8 can be kitted out with up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i7-1185G7 Processor, with up to 32GB LPDDR4x RAM, Intel Iris Xe graphics and a 13″ PixelSense display with thin bezels on the side and a 120Hz refresh rate.

Added to this, the aforementioned elements aimed at those working from home, include a 5MP camera up front and 10MP option on the rear. Although we must amid that swopping those around would have been a better choice for those doing video calls. Microsoft has though, added Dolby Atmos sound support and dual far-field Studio Mics to capture audio.

Pre-orders for this latest offering have already spun up in the US and other select regions, but South Africa getting these new 2-in-1’s is yet to be confirmed. Pricing Stateside for the Surface Pro 8 starts at $1 099.99 (~R16 214).

With Microsoft’s flagship Surface hardware failing to land locally at a frequent rate, hopefully that changes with this latest batch.
