Our favourite announcements from Netflix’s Tudum event

At the weekend Netflix held a three-hour livestream it called Tudum in which it showcased a lot of content headed to the platform. There were some surprises, teasers and updates about long awaited series returns and movie sequels.

Let’s start with an update about The Umbrella Academy. While the third season of the show doesn’t have a release date, filming wrapped about a month ago. All we have is this behind-the-scenes teaser shared during Tudum but we’re hopeful we’ll see season three of the show early in 2022.

On to some first looks starting with The Sandman. This is a rather short teaser but it looks like Neil Gaiman, Allan Heinberg, and David Goyer are sticking true to the comics. There is no release date for The Sandman yet.

Something that did get a release date is the fourth season of Cobra Kai. At the end of the third installment of the series Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do join forces to take on John Kreese. If you haven’t watched Cobra Kai you have until 31st December to catch up before the fourth season hits Netflix.

Joe Exotic and the madness that surrounded him is back in a second season of Tiger King coming to Netflix on 17th November.

What exactly this second season will touch on is an unknown at this point but given the madness that was showcased in the first season we can only expect Joe Exotic won’t be alone in prison. That’s the great thing though, the life of Joe Exotic is so mad we don’t really know what to expect.

Something we didn’t expect was a prequel to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead. Army of Thieves isn’t about zombies though. While the undead do feature, this is actually a heist movie with Ludwig Dieter – the fourth wall breaking safe cracker from Army of the Dead – as the focus.

Army of Thieves arrives on Netflix on 29th October.

A different spin the “end of the world” trope is Don’t Look Up which features an all star cast. With a comet headed to Earth threatening human extinction the White House doesn’t seem all that bothered instead trying to downplay the severity. Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence and Tyler Perry all star in this film which hits Netflix on 24th December.

Ahead of its 17th December launch, we were given a few teasers for season two of The Witcher. Geralt and Ciri are headed to Kaer Morhen and from the clip below it looks like Ciri is going to become a Witcher. Whether this will actually happen in season two is an unknown at this stage but we will seemingly see Ciri training as a Witcher under the watch of Geralt and Vesemir in this trailer.

Sticking with Witcher related news, The Witcher: Blood Origin still doesn’t have a release date but we did get a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the show. It looks like Iceland will serve as the backdrop for the show despite Declan de Barra’s jokes about it being largely underwater with Elves that have gills.

This is just a slice of what Netflix announced at Tudum.

You can watch the full stream here with timestamps for everything announced so you can skip to the content you’re interested in.
