Port Designs: Backpacks for business people on the go

The nature of work is changing. The days of heading into an office from nine to five are gone, as businesses look to adopt a hybrid model for workforces. With the current work environment in a state of flux, employees have to embrace a similar level of flexibility in terms of how they go about their day.

We are seeing workers and businesses alike assess the hardware they use day to day, with notebooks that boast better front-facing webcams and speakers needed in the videoconferencing era. Another example is having a power bank on hand when you’re out of the office and need to charge essential devices.

The same adjustments need to be taken into account for the accessories you are used to, with backpacks in particular needing to be more lightweight, robust, functional and affordable than ever before.

These factors are just some of the elements that Port Designs has taken into account for its latest backpacks, all of which are designed with the hybrid working model in mind. The company also leverages the insights it has from manufacturing power adaptors, peripherals and accessories too, all of which need to be placed in your backpack as you need to have a mobile office setup ready to go, for all intents and purposes.

While the Port Designs range is extensive, supplied locally via technology distributor Syntech, there are three backpacks in particular that warrant mentioned – the Courchevel Backpack, the Manhattan Backpack and the Chicago Backpack.

Starting with the Courchevel, which comes in two sizes to fit either 14″/15.6″ notebook or 17″ notebook respectively. They also feature enough space internally to house a 10.1″ tablet or perhaps a secondary display for those among us that like to have two screens set up in order to handle long multitasking sessions.

Added to this is nylon-based material that covers the Courchevel to provide a robust finish, along with padded areas for the shoulder and base of the backpack in order to offer greater comfort and support while it’s strapped to your back. Should those infamous Highveld thunder showers hit, it also has a rain cover to keep things dry and with small and medium pockets to yield added storage.

The Courchevel is therefore a backpack built with functionality in mind and perfect for those who want to carry all their work essentials with them on the go.

Next is one of the sleeker options in the Port Designs Backpack range – the Manhattan.

It is designed to carry a bit less hardware, so a 10.1″ tablet or notebook between 11″ and 13″ would be ideal. It has room for a few accessories too and an organisational compartment for documents if needed, so this backpack is best suited for those who have a desktop PC or All-in-One PC for their usual work setup and need something to carry around hardware designed with mobility in mind.

The last of the trio of options we’re highlighting here is the Chicago Evo Backpack, which features a few nifty innovations while you’re on the move.

Similar in size and shape to the Manhattan, the Chicago Evo is perfect for travelling thanks to its anti-theft features such as lockable zippers. Its padded interior will also keep your valuables protected and crucially your 13″ to 15.6″ notebook safe and sound. Should you be heading to airports or going through security checkpoints, there is an ingenious 180 degree opening system to provide instant visibility too. Lastly, the addition of a USB-connected internal power bank means you can charge your phone in a bind as well.
