Regalla Edition of Horizon Forbidden West is R5K in South Africa

A few hours ago Sony and Guerilla Entertainment revealed several physical editions of Horizon Forbidden West including a step above the regular Collector’s Edition called Regalla Edition.

We know how much these physical editions will cost thanks to retailers Raru, Nexus and BT Games all opening up pre-orders on them. Click on the names of each store to be taken to the order pages, but here’s a quick look at what South Africans will be paying:

  • Regalla Edition: R4 999
  • Collector’s Edition: R3 999
  • Special Edition: R1 399
  • Standard Edition: R1 199

It should be noted here that the prices for the Special and Standard Edition are the regular prices, but right now BT Games and Raru are offering them for slightly less money. Both stores right now have the Special Edition on pre-order for R1 299, and the Standard Edition for R1 099. R100 isn’t that much off the top considering the very high price here, but we’ll take what we can get.

Because the Regalla Edition is the top of the pile here in terms of content and price, it’s worth looking at how much South Africans are paying for this compared to overseas.

The listed US price is $259.99 which, at the time of writing, converts to around R3 747.94. Because US pricing doesn’t include tax we can be a bit fairer in our comparison by adding on 15 percent similar to South Africa’s VAT. That would bring the price to around R4 310.13.

So, at the top of the scale, local players will be handing over around R700 more for this product. Anyone who has ever had to personally import large items will attest to that R700 being rather fair when you consider the size and weight of the Regalla and Collector’s Editions, but it still stings.

As for what’s inside of the Regalla Edition the main selling point, aside from the game itself in a steel book case, is a statue of the Tremortusk decked out in Regalla colours. We saw this machine in this specific look in the original Horizon Forbidden West gameplay reveal (see the embedded trailer below).

Other items in the box include art cards, a replica of Aloy’s Focus earpiece, a canvas map and small “Machine Strike” pieces.

A breakdown of the contents of each edition can be found here.
