Rick and Morty rolls out Christopher Lloyd live action videos

Over the weekend, and now on Monday, the team behind Rick and Morty have released a trio of short promotional videos depicting a live action version of the show featuring Christopher Lloyd.

For those who don’t know the animated show is heavily inspired by Back to the Future with the titular Rick and Morty directly inspired by Doc Brown and Marty McFly respectively.

On several occasions this has been outright stated. For example here’s co-creator of the show Dan Harmon calling Rick and Morty “our blatant Back to the Future ripoff“.

This is what makes these videos so special as Lloyd himself appearing feels like closing the loop with the inspired piece of work featuring an aspect of what inspired it.

As for what has been shown so far the three videos can be watched in the embeds below. Unfortunately all three, at least right now, are only available on Twitter so we have to put up with its low quality and terrible video player.

These videos reference famous scenes from the show in “100 years Rick and Morty” and “Pickle Rick“. You can click on those links to see the original animated versions and how they compare to these live action skits.

At this point it’s worth mentioning that there’s been no announcement of any other live action versions of the show in the works. It’s very likely that these videos are simply self-contained adverts and / or Adult Swim bumps, not trailers for something greater.

Accompanying Lloyd in these videos is Jaeden Martell as Morty. This actor has appeared in many projects despite being so young with the two modern It movies and Knives Out being the standouts.
