Short Battlefield 2042 delay moves it from October to November

It seems this week has been a lightning rod for game delays as Total War: Warhammer 3, Dying Light 2 and now Battlefield 2042 have all been moved out.

Battlefield 2042 was intended to launch next month on 22nd October, but will now come out on 19th November.

An announcement has been released on Twitter simple titled “an update from the Battlefield team” and is signed off by Oskar Gabrielson.

While his position isn’t included in the announcement, Gabrielson (according to his LinkedIn page) is the VP and general manager of EA’s studio DICE.

Unlike Total War and Dying Light, COVID-19 is mentioned as a reason for the date move.

“Building the next generation of Battlefield during a global pandemic has created unforeseen challenges for our development teams. Given the scale and scope of the game, we had hoped our teams would be back in our studios together as we move towards launch. With the ongoing conditions not allowing that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the teams are doing from home, we feel it is important to take the extra time to deliver on the vision of Battlefield 2042 for our players,” Gabrielson writes.

The move into November puts Battlefield 2042 rather close to its long-time rival Call of Duty, with its latest game Vanguard scheduled for release on 5th November.

While there’s a decent amount of time between the two releasing in the same month means that, for many people, it will be a matter of choosing one or the other to take a chunk out of that month’s budget.

As we covered around the announcement of Battlefield 2042, the game not only has a complicated pricing structure, but it is also very expensive on top of that.

With 2021 getting closer to its end we have to wonder if any more game delays will happen before 2022 rolls around.
