Steam Fest hasn’t started but there’s a lot on sale

Steam Fest – the combination sale and demo event on Valve’s storefront – is set to return on 1st October, but before that a lot of games have already been discounted.

Steam users who have email alerts turned on for wishlist games being reduced (something we highly recommend) will have already been notified that a good amount of games have gotten in on things early with sales.

This is a combination of publisher sales, “midweek madness” sales, “week long deals”, special promotions and sundry.

We’re not entirely sure why so many games have gone on sale all at once right now. If we had to guess it could be that publishers and developers are trying to jump ahead of Steam Fest to bring in sales before users are inundated with even more discounts and demos to play.

Regardless we went around the office here at Hypertext for suggestions on games (and one benchmark tool) that are heavily discounted and worth looking into.

Of course our list can only be so long. As always our advice remains the same: during times when there’s no sales add games you want to your wishlist. When sales do pop up you can get an email from Steam alerting you to it, or you can manually sort your wishlist to display only discounted titles.

But what if I want to spend no money?

One of the aforementioned publisher sales is for Microids. The sale page for the publisher can be found here, but it is also giving two games away for free.

Point and click puzzle games Syberia and Siberia II are now free to keep until 29th September.

Finally we have to leave Steam to pick up the last game as 2064: Read Only Memories is free on the Epic Games Store until with the offer also ending on 29th September.
