Synthetik 2 leans into its 80s movie inspirations

In the past, when we’ve covered the game Synthetik we’ve referred to it as a “Robo roguelike” and mentioned RoboCop as an influence. We’re justified in those comparisons today as a story trailer for Synthetik 2 leans into this inspiration.

From this trailer we learn that the game takes place in an alternate reality 1985 in which self-learning computers and fusion power have lead to the machines being in control.

So it’s not just RoboCop, but also Terminator too. Those movies came out in 1987 and 1984 respectively, by the way.

In Synthetik 2 players take control of a prototype android that will fight for the humans against the robots. We call this premise “The Terminator 2”.

Mixed in with this trailer is some gameplay. For those unfamiliar with the series you’re getting some twin stick shooter roguelike action that is really brought to life with some satisfying gunplay.

A vast array of insane firepower is a big part of the experience here, something that is also highlighted in the trailer with a gratuitous pan over a wall of guns.

Synthetik 2 is scheduled for release into Steam’s Early Access programme on 11th November 2021. You can add the game to your wishlist ahead of time here.

A demo for Synthetik 2 was made available during the last Steam Fest event. A new Steam Fest will be happening in October so we’re hoping another demo for the game will be made available then.

The first Synthetik is available on Nintendo Switch, PC (Steam and GOG) and Xbox One / Series X|S.

For those who want to experience some of the game for free right now, the Arena standalone is still available and can be enjoyed without paying a cent.
