The Hawkeye series wants to be a big Christmas event

After what feels like years of hearing about it and seeing blurry set photos, Marvel has finally released the first trailer for the Hawkeye series.

Releasing on Disney+ on 24th November, the show will take place around the holidays and will have two leads in the form of the familiar Hawkeye played by Jeremy Renner and newcomer Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop.

“…a new series set in post-blip New York City. Former Avenger Clint Barton has a seemingly simple mission: get back to his family for Christmas. Possible? Maybe with the help of Kate Bishop, a 22-year-old archer with dreams of becoming a Super Hero. The two are forced to work together when a presence from Barton’s past threatens to derail far more than the festive spirit,” the trailer description reads.

The trailer, embedded at the bottom of this story, reveals that Kate Bishop is in trouble after assuming the identity of Ronin, the other persona that Hawkeye assumed following the events of Infinity War.

Ronin being a more violent, vengeful figure in comparison to Hawkeye was not explored that much in Endgame, so hopefully the series will shed some light on what the character was up to after losing his family to Thanos’ snap.

Maybe we’ll also get some backstory about the worst haircut in the entire MCU.

Other details in the trailer include a musical based on Captain America called “Rogers”, the dog Lucky and some bad guys who look like generic Russian mobsters.

At one point we also see Hawkeye with something in his ear. Many characters in the MCU wear small earpieces as a way to communicate but this could also be a hearing aid. This series is said to be inspired by the Matt Fraction run of Hawkeye in which the titular character wears one, so we wouldn’t be surprised for it to appear here too.

The Hawkeye series will launch on 24th November and will release weekly for six episodes.

Unfortunately for South Africans and those in many other countries, there won’t be a legal way to watch Disney+ content for at least another year.
