The latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) regarding COVID-19 in South Africa looks rather promising.
It always carries the proviso of being early in the week, when numbers coming in from across the country are little slower, but the latest figures show that only 201 new cases for COVID-19 have been recorded in the past 24 hours.
This sees the total number of infections recorded to date now sit at 2 912 346.
As for the other key figures in the report, newly recorded fatalities are also down compared to past weeks, with 29 reported in the past 24 hours. The death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has climbed to 88 346 as a result.
Other statistics show that the recovery rate has increased by a point of a percent to 95.9, as more than 17.98 million people have been tested in the country to date.
Shifting to the vaccine rollout, the NDoH highlighted the fact that a third of the adult population in SA has received at least one jab, with 19 242 116 vaccines administered as of 17:00 on 11th October. The past 24 hours has seen 189 528 vaccines administered, but this number needs to pick up as we approach the year end.
