COVID-19 in South Africa: 19th October 2021

With each passing day, the latest report from the National Department of Health (NDoH) looks increasingly promising.

This as the department has recorded one of the lowest number of daily cases and fatalities over the past 24 hours that we have seen for quite a few months now.

More specifically the NDoH has recorded 210 new cases over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections reported to date now sitting 2 916 803.

The department also confirms that seven fatalities have been reported too, and while any loss of life is tragic, it is a positive statistic given the impact of the third wave and the delta variant of the virus.

Still the death toll related to COVID-19 in South Africa has increased to 88 619 as a result.

Looking at some of the other figures, the recovery rate still remains at 96.2 percent with 2 805 566 recoveries recorded and over 18.18 million tests having been conducted to date.

As for the vaccine rollout, the past 24 hours has seen 167 928 jabs administered, with turnout to vaccine sites across the country in need of a ramping up. Hopefully though, that number picks up as the week progresses and numbers regarding the spread of the virus remain low.

For now, as of 17:00 on 18th October, a total of 20 381 262 vaccines have been administered, with an estimated 10 891 296 people are fully vaccinated at this stage.
