Everything entering the Destiny Content Vault in 2022

On 22nd February 2022 Bungie will launch its next expansion for Destiny 2 in The Witch Queen. The expansion brings with it a new destination, an all-new weapon type and skill reworks.

While new content is great, this also means Bungie has to remove some existing content from the game and on Thursday we learned exactly what is being put into the Destiny Content Vault (DCV).

In February, Bungie will place content from the Forsaken expansion into the DCV but not everything is being vaulted.

The following content will no longer be available at the launch of The Witch Queen:

  • The Tangled Shore destination
  • The Hallowed Lair Strike
  • Broodhold Strike
  • Year 4 Seasonal content (includes Override, Expunge, Astral Alignment, Shattered Realm, Presage, Harbinger).

The following content from Forsaken will not be entering the DCV:

  • The Dreaming City destination
  • The Last Wish Raid
  • Warden of Nothing strike.

In addition, the Proving Grounds strike introduced in Season of the Chosen will remain in the game. Interestingly, Battlegrounds, the seasonal activity from Season of the Chosen will remain in the game and form part of a new Vanguard Operations playlist which will be available to all players when The Witch Queen launches.

Given that the Tangled Shore is being vaulted, this means Spider’s currency exchange function will be transferred to Master Rahool in the Tower.

The Forsaken pack

As Forsaken contains a lot of content (in terms of Exotic weapons and armour) as well as access to The Last Wish Raid, Bungie will be launching something called the Forsaken pack.

Available on 7th December, the Forsaken pack will include access to the Raid, the Shattered Throne dungeon and access to all Forsaken Exotics.

“The Forsaken Pack will also include three Forsaken Ciphers that can be used to instantly unlock your choice of Forsaken Exotics (not including raid and dungeon Exotics) via the Exotic kiosk in the Tower. Everyone who previously purchased Forsaken will automatically own the new Forsaken Pack and will receive the three Forsaken Ciphers directly in their inventory. If you already have every Forsaken Exotic weapon, those Ciphers will be converted to Ascendant Shards,” said Bungie.

On the same day the pack launches, the Forsaken campaign will become free to play for all players. We highly recommend playing that campaign as it remains the best story experience (barring year 4 of Destiny 2) in Destiny 2.

While we aren’t fans of having content we paid for becoming unplayable, we also understand that if Bungie never removed content Destiny 2 would be a massive game, and that’s not viable.

We’re glad to see that The Last Wish isn’t being removed. It is, to this day, one of the best Raid experiences we’ve ever had.
