Fujfilm’s larger format Instax Link Wide smartphone printer lands in SA this month

Fujifilm has announced a new smartphone printer that will land in SA later this month in the form of the Instax Link Wide.

As the name would suggest, this latest offering is wider that the Instax Mini Link yielding prints that are twice the width in fact.

The Link Wide is expected to land locally come 22nd October, carrying with it a recommended price tag of R2 499.

While that is on the expensive side for nostalgia inducing photos, we find the prospect of being able to print photos taking with your smartphone’s camera a far more enticing prospect than the capabilities of Fujifilm’s instant cameras, which are far less powerful and less nuanced, often leading to mixed results.

“Despite its support of the larger wide-format film, the Link Wide remains compact and lightweight (340g), coming with a hand-strap for enhanced portability. The fact that it’s powered by a built-in battery allows this smartphone printer to be carried along to wherever the fun is. The Link Wide can be recharged via a USB cable, eliminating the need for an unsightly AC adapter,” notes a press release sent to Hypertext.

“Fujifilm South Africa will be offering both the Ash White and the luxurious Mocha Gray colour options in South Africa,” it adds.

As for the film this new smartphone printer takes, there are two options, with Fujifilm SA confirming that the Instax Wide White border film will be sold in packs of 10, retailing for a recommended R195 and the Black border film for R210.

With the holiday season on the way, we can certainly see the Instax Link Wide potentially proving popular.
